Tranny code help
Hey everyone, I am a new member here but long time viewer who drives an 02 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L. First I would like to say I love this forum and the guys who are apart of it, you are the ones who have inspired me to mod the truck like I have; AT3030 exhaust, Superchips tuned, tinted lights, debadged and detrimmed and more, and as good as this all sounds I have a problem that is beyond my knowledge. Recently, I would like to say within the last month, the truck has been throwing a P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit code and I was wondering what could be causing this. I noticed that every now and then it seemed as if the torque converter was slipping, but this was NOT prevalent everytime I drive, just the odd time. For example, today it threw up the code again and I thought it was driving just fine..
The first thing that I thought to do was check the tranny fluid - it was brown, smelly and in need of dire change. I got that done along with a tranny pan service; the tech said the shavings on the magnet were fairly excessive for a truck with 200000 km on it. Now, after changing out the old fluid for new it threw this code once again, it has got me stumped.. The truck did a lot of towing in its day - my dad actually towed an overweight fifth wheel with it since new - and it has now been passed down to me. So here comes my question, what would be the cause of this code, and will I be needing a new tranny in the future??
Could this have something to do with my superchips tuner which has raised the rpm limiter from 5k to 5600? (i noticed this code appearing roughly when I first installed the tuner)
So no one has had experience with this code?? Hopefully by towing my trailer this long weekend I wont be doing any damage to the tranny that could end up leaving me stranded....
Cheers
