Default 2005 axle leak

Ok, i have a 2005 4.7L 4wd quad cab dodge. I have a leak from the right axle shaft.

has anyone done this repair before. What all do i need? the leak is getting worse. So i know i need an axle seal but i dont remember how much fluid i need. is there any special tools i need for this job?

Thanks in advance,
Jake

Didn't do mine but did just get mine done yesterday at firestone. They did all 3 seals and bearings. Cost about $200. I know from what people have said it's not too hard of a job to do but if you are mechanicaly inclinded, better off just sending it in an getting it done. Firestone actually ran into problems with mine resulting in them having to send my drive shaft out to get welded and balanced (no cost to me of course). Kind of glad after i heard that that i didn't do mine.

fairly easy. pop the shaft out then pull the old seal out, then put the new seal in.
done deal

  1. Remove half shaft from vehicle.
  2. Remove skid plate, if equipped.
  3. Clean axle seal area.
  4. Remove axle shaft O-ring.
  5. Remove axle shaft.
  6. Remove axle shaft seal with a small pry bar.

no. you will have to take your cover out. take your axle out by popping out the clip in your rear diff.
once you get the shaft out you will see the seal and yank it out with a big screwdriver or a seal

Mine was leaking really bad about a month ago. On the way to get it fixed it actually made the brakes start smoking so bad a guy thought my truck was on fire. The place i took mine for new seals and bearings on both sides with labor charged me 150 bucks.
