That's because you have a solid front axle supplied by AA. It is shipped to Dodge painted and the knuckle is integral to that axle (painted also).
That is a 2WD one ton. A completely different animal. It has an independant fron suspension that is made up of completely different parts.

Alright, thanks for the replies. I guess it's just normal, but it was bugging me nonetheless, and as I have a tendancy to be a little obsessive compulsive about these things, I took a wire brush and cleaned up as much as I could, and put some black zinc paint on it.
At least I don't see rust every time I walk by the car now.
