Default Mega 1500 V 2500...beating the dead horse

Sorry to bring this one up again but there is a lot of conflicting information and I am hoping someone can offer a definitive answer.

I understand the standard features differences (e.g. early versions of the Mega 1500 came with Hemi, 2500 came with 5.7 diesel standard, and so on). I am focusing this question on the suspension/hauling/weight capacity vice the standard feature sets or other ergonomic stuff.

My assumption going into this discussion is:
1. There is no actual difference between towing and hauling capacity between a 1500 Mega or 2500 Mega.
2. The only difference is in the ratings that Dodge aligned with each series; 1500 Mega being lower capacity. I believe this was all marketing and DOT related limitations.
3. The reality is the 1500 Mega is essentially a 2500 Mega with a 1500 Mega badge on it.

From a functional, frame, and suspension perspective, what is the difference between a 1500 Mega and its 2500 Mega brethren?

I have read answers ranging from nothing to a reference that the 1500 Mega has softer shocks for ride quality. I think the softer shocks answer is incorrect. I think the actual answer is nothing. From the tires up to the badging on the fender everything is the same. Same steering, same gearing options, same leaf springs, same shocks, etc. In effect, I can haul or tow the same amount using either series truck. Granted, if DOT stops me in my 1500 Mega and I am hauling a load at the max for a 2500 Mega I may get a ticket. But the truck is capable of carrying the load.

What is the right answer and is there a definitive source to reference?

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. But now I am confused. To make sure I understand your response, you are saying:

1. false = There are actual differences to towing and hauling capacity of a 1500 Mega and 2500 Mega.

2. true = Marketing and DOT regulations are the only reason specs are different for towing and hauling between the two trucks.

3. false = The 1500 Mega is not a 2500 Mega with a 1500 Mega badge on it.

If I have that correct I am not sure I understand. True #2 suggests there are no mechanical differences. But false #1 and #3 suggest there are mechanical differences.

Ok, that was the thread I had found earlier.

I was content that was the definitive answer until I found a response (forget where now) from someone suggesting that the 1500 had lighter shocks in the rear end.

Anyway,

Thanks for the clarification.

The MEGAcab is built on a 2500 chassis, so even the 1500 Mega is still sitting on a 2500 chassis. Little to no difference at all.
