Default Key Fob

Hey guys,

I'm new here, and this is my first post. I read the rules, and searched the threads, but could not find an answer, so here I am.

I bought my third Dodge pickup this week, and it is my first Ram- a 1500 Quad Cab SLT. I loved my Dakotas, but with my family growing I needed a bigger truck. I'm lovin' my Ram! Anyway...

I went online to search for keyfobs. On eBay, I see a Ram key fob for $65, but there are other fobs for the Journey, Charger, Magnum, etc., for about $30.00. They look identical. I assume they need programming, so they are blanks. Will these fobs work with my Ram?

Here is the eBay search page:

In order to program a key fob on your own you must have two factory ones. I purchased a blank off the internet and had the dealer program and cut it. The blank was $65 and programming and cutting was $89 for me. I know some dealerships will do this for less, but in my area they know they can get it.

You don't say what year your truck is. If it's a security key, you need two working keys. If it's just keyless entry, you only need one working fob. You can get a fob off eBay for < $20 and a key from Lowe's. You'll need to be sure the FCC number on the working fob matches the one you're buying.

Oh, and WELCOME to da group.
