Default 1.5 inch lift is not as easy as I thought

Well, at the moment my truck is sitting on a jack stand, with no spring or shock in it. I rented the stupid spring compressor, and it got it enough for the spring to come out, but now it wont go back in with the spacer. I guess tomorrow I have to go get a Ball Joint tool, and lower the hub assembly down and off. Would that work, I think I could get the lower control arm down enough for it to fit.

What did you guys do? Because I am not doing something right!

Ryan

While taking the hub off is easier it is not needed for just a coil spring spacer. I do remember at times having to get my 2" ratchet straps and hook on end to the LCA and the other end to the engine mount and ratchet it to pull the LCA up, compress the spring and be able to mount the shock.

But I am assuming you have the UCA and LCA in place, a coil spring between the two and compressed as much as you can, the spindle installed on the lower BJ right? And you are saying you cannot get the spindle to go on the upper BJ right?

So we took the bolts off the ball joints, but we couldnt pry it off. I say hub but I mean the entire assembly that holds the hub. Name of it slips my mind. What do you guys recommend?

I think I have 2 options. Compress the spring all the way and possibly hurt myself, or take EVERYTHING apart?

When I did mine I supported the frame with a jack stand and placed a floor jack under the wheel. I took the wheel, brakes, caliper off, then the tie rod and sway bar link, then the shock and wheel bearing hub off. That left nothing but the spindle connected to the upper and lower BJs and the coil spring. I look loose the lower BJ and removed the castle nut completely and then used a pitman arm puller to separate the lower BJ from the spindle. Then I did the same for the upper BJ and let the floor jack down releasing the coil spring. At that point I took the spring out and because I was using rubber coil spacers, I zip tied it to the spring to hold it in place. I sprayed the upper coil bucket and lower coil mount with lube and put the spring back in place and then started re-assembling everything in opposite order.

i just disconnected the tie rod, sway bar, and upper ball joint (you shouldn't need a tool btw. just undo the blt all the way except a few threads and then beat the side of the knuckle with a hammer. it'll eventually pop).

after that the stuts with spacers went in no prob.
