If it's an automatic, there are no bands. Just clutches, solenoids and valves. First gear is 3:1, second is 1.67:1, second prime is 1.5:1, third is 1:1, fourth is .67:1 or .5:1. There is a flash that can make it a five-speed, so I've read.

automatics have bands. They wrap around the planetary gears.
I check the jeep boards, it looks like the 545rfe has an auto tensioner on it.
I know my old 42re was like 15in pounds.

There is a flash too, it'll get you a gear between 2 and 3, called 2p I believe. Its a downshift passing gear if memory serves me right.

Yep, as said above, no bands in the 545rfe

What issues are you having? When was the last time you changed all the fluids and filters? How many miles are on the trans?

I have 87000 miles on the truck. The last fluid and filter change was at 76000. The issues I am having are on occasion when I put it in reverse it will not move the engine just revs (slips) but only happens if it is a quick start up and then straight to reverse with no idle warm up time at all. If I let it idle at start up for a minute it will not do this. It is usually if it has been sitting for a while like 8 hours or more.

The first thing I would do is get a Sonnax trans line pressure booster and see if it helps. They are only about $40 +/- and you connect it on the Transmission Pressure Sensor. It adds resistance to make the trans pump produce more pressure and cause the internal clutches to engage and disengage faster.

If it works then your issues are solved for now. If it doesnt then put it here on the board and it will sell.

Eventually it sounds like you are going to need to rebuild or replace the trans so stay on the lookout in craigslist or salvage yards
