05 Ram problems
Well, my grandpa's 05 Ram 5.7 4x4 has been giving him some trouble recently. And we can not figure out what the source of the problem is. What the truck is doing is that sometimes it will miss, run sluggish and won't rev over about 3500 or so RPM according to him. And It will die on him without much warning either. Today it did it in the middle of the highway(oh crap!) But it will run fine the rest of time it's not doing this... It had a code at first for a camshaft sensor but he has replaced the spark plugs, plug wires and the camshaft sensor but the camshaft sensor came back. We have a few ideas that we have thought of that we may look into. I also checked the grounds and they are tight and appear to be in good shape but I may take them off and clean them up a bit tomorrow. We are gonna check the fuel pressure to make sure the fuel pump is good even though this doesn't seem like a fuel pump. Also we thought that maybe the O2 sensors could be bad? Possibly? That was an idea but I figured that a code would be thrown if those were bad. Also we thought the fuel filter could be bad but that is "suppose" to be a lifetime filter and in the tank if I'm correct. Last is something else I'll look into tomorrow and thats the voltage because it sounds like a voltage drop could possibly cause this. But pretty much we are kinda stuck, I guess you'd say and very open to any ideas or help y'all could offer us. Thanks alot!
Sounds like you've covered your bases. If you changed the cam sensor and it was good but now it's back again, could it be a bad cam sensor again? Wouldn't surprise me a bit especially with aftermarket stuff.
Is the engine making any funny noises or does it sound healthy?
If the truck doesn't stakll out within the same amount of time after start-up then the check-valve in the pump isn't the problem nor is the pump itself or else you wouldn't be able to start the truck. Unless ofcourse you have a bad ground?
I would check your cam sensor wires and make sure you are getting proper voltage. I would also do a reset of your computer to make sure it's not seeing a previous problem or stuck in a mind of it's own??
