Cracked 360 head.
Just pulled my neighbors heads off his '02 to replace weak lifters. The left side cylinder head is cracked between the valves on three cylinders. Has anyone reinstalled these heads with the crack? And has anyone had these cracks repaired with success and what would he expect to pay for the repair if it is possible?
Thanx for the help.

I had a 5.9 dakota where 6/8 of the cyls were cracked - it's a COMMON Magnum 5.2/5.9 (3.9 too?) problem.
I didn't reinstall the cracked heads, seems foolish since you've already done all of the work only to put a part back on that you KNOW is going to fail sooner or later.
I took my heads to a local machine shop, and what they said is that it would cost about $750 to grind/weld/machine and put new valve guides and hardened seats in on ALL of the cyls - because the odds are good that those cyls that aren't cracked yet will crack when they start welding on it.
$750 for old heads with new seats and guides, but old valves, springs, and retainers...
or do what I did and order a set of Indy/RHS heads from Hughes Engines. They flow better than the Edelbrock aluminum heads out of the box, they come assembled with new parts, and I think with new manifold bolts (TTY), gaskets, and all the bits it was less than $1500. The heads themselves were about $900.
here:
HUG 20300A - Cyl head, 1.92 alloy valves, assembled pair: $875
HUG 3126 - Fel-pro gasket kit: $147.50
HUG 7183 - ARP head bolts: $65.95
HUG 7720 - Magnum intake plenum gasket fix: $119.95
HUG 7700 - Intake manifold bolts: $17.95
I think that's about what I put on mine. It would be a good time to do a cam or heck, swap out the intake manifold all together. Their Magnum Air Gap intake supposedly gives several MPG as well as a bunch of power.
