Default 9.25" clutch retainer clips

I got a 04 ram 1500 with a 9.25 rearend. I have had a wine in it for a while and thought it was tires but last week it got a lot worse. So today i pulled the cover off to inspect and found i have broken clutchpack clips found two of them on the magnet the other two were still intact. My pinion bearings are also shot as well as the carrier bearings.Im going to put new bearings but dont know about the clips. I really dont know what they do. Will it work without the clips? It appears to me they help keep the clutchpack in line when installing but im not sure? So any help or advise would be greatly appreciated,

thanks jody
