Default exhaust heat shield loose

the heat shield on my exhaust headers are only attached by 1 bolt and make a slight ting sound, i can hear it at idle.

Do i need the heat shields?
are they expensive?
are they held on by the header bolts?

Subscribed, as I have exactly the same on my 03 Hemi drivers side stock manifold heat shields.

It probably means the your manifold bolts (the bolt head broke off) are broke and you probably have an exhaust leak at the manifolds. That happened to mine, and that gives you a good excuse to get headers.

Yeah I would do as said above and check each and every manifold bolt and tighten or replace as needed. However, it the shields or studs are bad, they shields are not required or needed. They are not deflecting that much heat.

Had the same issue, been getting a rattling noise at about 2100 - 2200 RPM. Removed heatshields thinking they were the issue, as they were only held on by one bolt, then found that I still have the issue, could a leak at this location cause a rattle noise? even after heat sheilds are removed? ALSO: It will only do it under a load, I cannot duplicate the noise sitting still. Sorry to Threadjack, just really need some advice.

Check them bolts! Bad problem with them snapping on these trucks. Getting a broke steel bolt out of aluminum = fun, fun, fun!!!
