Default How to Make Intake Shield???

So I have a intake on my 07 hemi. Just autozone chrome intake pipe and filter. Filter gets so dirty so I want to make a intake heat sheild for it. I dont feel like spending 300 for a full intake so making a custom one will be fun to make. Any ideas how to start. Im going to go to lowes and see if they have some like plastic peices or metal peices i can put together but I dont know. any pics of people that made there own. Thanks.

Oh where can I get like some sheet metal peices. I could cut and form them together.

Start by cutting it out of cardboard and taping it with duck tape. When you have the shied you want you can use the card board for a pattern to cut the sheet metal.I leave a extra 1/2 inch to flange an offset to overlap the two connecting peices and use pop rivits to fasten them.

Go for it "YOU CAN DO IT"

Use a sheet of flat aluminum, about .025" would be enough, can be bent by hand with a straight edge and cut easily with shears.

You may also want to think about a pre-filter. I use one due to the fact that about 50% of the roads up around the farm are dirt roads and it will not only get the filter filthy in no time, but the fine particles get through and really make the engine oil dirty in no time.

After going to the pre-filter (which only reduces efficiency of the filter by 2%) my filter stays cleaner much longer and the oil at change time is no where near as dirty. To clean the pre-filter you just periodically wipe it off with a damp cloth...

Uh huh.......many dry dirty dusty clay roads around here. When you seen someone drive sown them and all the dust they throw in the air, you cant help but wonder how that engine feels breathing all of that crap.

I ordered mine right from K&N and it was right at $60, but I've since seen clones of it around for a lot cheaper. Check Autoanything, Summit and Jeggs...
