Power steering pump?
I have got a pretty loud winding noise coming from my engine. It almost sounds like a turbo, I wish that is what it was! I am thinking it is my power steering pump. My steering is fine, no problems at all, as I rev the engine or speed up, the whine gets louder. Any thoughts?
could be a number of components such as:
Alternator
Power steering
idler pulley
..etc
What you can do is get a very long screwdriver. You place the tip on or touching the housing of the component you think is making the noise. On the handle end, you grab it like you were going to stab something. You want to put your ear up to your thumb and pointer finger(create a seal against your hand). Now, be very careful not to hit the fan as it can take a hand, ginger or ear off. With the engine running, touch each component and find out where the noise is coming from. If it screams in your ear, you found it. Again, just be careful not to get near then fan which is why a very long screwdriver is recc'd.
Or you can take your belt off and spin all of your components.
