Default 02 with 4.7 won't hold its idle.

Will idle at start up to 1,000 rpm, then it will drop to 800rpm, then to 600, and then on the next drop it will die just like you cut the switch off. Also you can keep it running with the accelerator but will always die when you let off the gas.

Will start right back up but you will have to pump it a little.

Also I think I noticed that it smelled like it was running rich.

I forgot to mention that the code the truck gave out was p 0601. I think this is saying the computer is screwed up but it runs great except for the idle problem.

Remove the iac and clean it good, may require replacing. Some dodge's have idle problems with low battery voltage also. P0601 is internal controller (PCM) failure. You will definitely need a PCM to get the light off.

Does this mean a whole new computer? Will one from a junker work?

I have already replaced the part. Did not help.

A junk yard would work but it would have to be optioned exactly like your truck I think.

If you have a gray key(with skim), then I would not use a junkyard pcm. If you have a black key(w/o skim), you may be able to get by with a used controller.

You could try replacing the TPS and clearing the code to and see if it comes back. Mine was doing that a few weeks back but without the code, just needed a new TPS.
