Starts but won't run
Hey guys haveing an issue with my 02 4.7L, this morning when I went out and was heading for work I went to start the truck and got a backfire, to be honest not sure if it was from the intake or exhaust It was quick BANG.... then a little smoke billowed from below the truck and from under the hood. It sounded more like from the exhaust but not a 100% positive. After that I turned the key back off then tried to start again, it would crank then start up and run the rpms up to about 3-4K then die out. There's no check engine light comeing up either. It ran fine last night when I got home. It was a cool 53 degrees this morning so it wasn't to cold. I went back home at lunch to see what it was doing and same thing cranks revs up then dies with no engine lights. I've searched around in the forum for "TPS" and "backfire" but no other threads seem to be having the exact problem I am. Where do I start?
I've only got 67K miles on it. I noticed previously that if parked facing down hill it starts right up, but if its level after setting a few hours I usually have it mash the gas to get it started. This morning it was facing downhill, not much maybe 10 degree slope.

i had the exact thing happen to me i went to start the truck and bang. started again it went straight to the rev limiter about 4k but then it would idle very rough at like 500 and lower bouncing back and forth. turns out my intake blew into pieces its just made of plastic. i also only had 117000 km on my truck when this happened.
Thank the Lord I got it fixed, after I took the "hemi hat" or what ever you want to call that big plastic box going into the TB I inspected the intake and found on the backside of the intake manifold there was a big oval plate (3"x5") that was loose on the backside going straight into the intake so basically it was like starting the truck up with the throttle wide open and the butterfly being twice the size. I first just stuck it back on and she purred like a kitten so I took it completely out and put RVT around it and stuck it back on. I will give it 24 hrs to setup good then see how she runs, but I'm 100% sure that was the issue. What caused the backfire not sure it may have even been that plate loose then after the backfire it blew it completely off either way if anyone else comes across the same symptoms inspect your manifold on the backside, it can't hardly be seen but you can feel around back there. Thanks again for everyones input
