Manual Transmission Question
What's the deal with Dodge Ram transmissions? Seems like everyone I've talked to has had one replaced...or two replaced.
I have a manual 6 speed 3.7 1500. Would there be anything to be concerned about with one of these? I've been told that every so often a gear may need to be replaced, but not a tranny swap.
Anybody know anything?

No issues with mine but keep in mind you did buy a 3 ton truck with a small v6 engine. Thats a lot of weight for a power/drive train IMO.
But standard transmissions usually last forever as long as you know how to change gears. Double clutching helps if you know how. You might have to change a clutch later on down the road but those are wearable items. I doubt you will need to be replacing gears though.

i wish my truck had the 6 speed manual.
i hardly ever see problems with manuals. the worst i have seen is worn syncros so the gears dont mesh correctly.
i would expect to replace a clutch in the future. if you know how to drive a manual really good it might last you quite longer than someone who has just learned and so on.
as in the clutch is a wearable item as someone previosuly said.

Mine was rebuilt by the dealer under extended warranty at 91,000 miles. Shattered 3rd gear and bent rails. It is at 159,000 now with no problems, but it went without any warning the first time. Parked it the night before, coasted into the driveway in 3rd and shut it off. The next day, it wouldn't move. We'll see what it does when it gets to about 180,000. Keep the fluid changed if you do any hauling. ATF+4 I now change mine every 30,000 or so.
Thanks everyone. The manual says to change the fluid on the 2500/3500 every 60,000 miles. Nothing is said about the 1500. Maybe I'll just follow this schedule just to be on the safe side.
