Default finally have to do lower ball joints

hey all, been searching all over DT and here. i finally have to do the lower ball joints on my 04 4x4. i have the tools and the knowhow but have a couple of questions. what size is the axle nut? also does this have to come apart? i was thinking just the tie rod end and useing a floor jack just lowering the lower control arm enough to get enough room to get a tool in there. i downloaded the 04 service manual and read that. it says to remove the steering knuckle, do i really need to? i dont want to do any damage to the hub/bearrings and being in the rust belt im afraid its gonna be on there. i'm also gonna be in the driveway doing this. thanks, carl

On a 2wd you do not have to remove the spindle. IDK about a 4wd though
