Default A/C Problem - Need Help.

Hello all. I have what a think is a unique problem with my air conditioning system and need some help.

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 5.9L about 97000 miles or so.

In the past few months, my air conditioning started turning itself back on. I would turn off the a/c system (fan switch), immediately, the 'compressor light' (small push button) would come back on, with the fan switch still in off position, and the a/c would be working normally. (Cold air 'falls' out of vents and can hear compressor cycling) However, when this occurs, the fan will not turn on and if you move the switch to select a fan setting, the fan still dosen't come on.

This problem is very random and occurs just when it feels like it, there is no pattern. It does seem to be more of a problem after turning the truck off for just a few minutes before restarting. The fan has never stopped working while the truck is on and a/c is already working. However, if the fan wont come on, sometimes ten minutes down the road the the fan would start working again.

When the a/c is working with no issues, the fan does work on all settings so I don't think the resistor is bad.

I guess its an electrical problem since it turns itself on with the switch in off position? Oh by the way, this this happens, you cant turn it off at all - a/c on with no fan.

Hard to explain and Frustrating.

So far this is what I have done:

1. new ignition switch - didn’t work
2. new control assembly (switch panel cluster) - didn’t work
3. I have removed the fan and connected directly to battery - works fine
4. I have removed and cleaned the contacts on my blower resistor - so far its works... but that’s not to say it just in its working mode right now.
5. Test power to on fan wire harness...12.36v - perfect

As you can see I am stumped and don't know where to go from here, really thought it was the switch.

Anyone every experienced a problem like this?? And tips or advice??

Thank you.

Possibly a "Blen" door. if everything is working perfectly but air seems to just not be coming out its going to be the blen door

There are relays but nothing specific to the a/c blower motor or its control. I found was a fuse for the HVAC Control but obviously that isn't blown if works part of the time. Dodge has the fuse box under the hood, so unless they have it hiding in a random spot I don't know of there isn't one.

I got smart and decided to search the internet generically rather than Dodge Ram specific.

I came across this link on another help site:

http://www.justanswer.com/questions/...f-this-happens

Basically, this says its a control module mounted under heater box that controls the fan, seperate from the dash control head. The answer definitly describes my problem. However, this was for an automatic a/c but it was a Jeep.

Worth looking into at least, I let you how this goes.
