What is up with this lazy transmission???
So i found this....
* Gear Ratios:
o 1st 3.00:1
o 2nd 1.67:1
o 2nd Prime 1.50:1
o 3rd 1.00:1
o 4th 0.75:1
o Reverse 3.00:1
* 545RFE only:
o 5th 0.67:1
So the prime 2nd would be the normal 2nd gear? Then 4th would be the .75 or the .67?

I think the 3.55s are a major source of your problems, essentially the truck is having to lug the engine to keep you in a gear, and the PCM can't find an appropriate gear or shift schedule. I imagine this gets worse on hills/with weight in the bed. The axle ratio is making the gap between gears seem worse. Also, when you turn O/D off in the 45RFE trans (and the 545RFE if i'm not mistaken) the computer won't shift as hard, giving you softer, smoother shifts for towing. It happened to me a few times after I went to 33" tires and still had the 3.92s.
$2000 for gearing is high, for 2 sets of gears and labor, I'd expect $1200-$1500. Assuming you aren't planning on going to bigger tires, I would look into a set of 4.10s if I were you. I've got 4.56s in my truck and it was hands down one of the best mods ever.

545RFE adds the .67 second overdrive and an updated shift schedule. the 45RFE still has the 2nd Prime, but usually the only time you hit it is under heavy acceleration or towing with O/D off.
Thats what i was wondering. How much does that usually run?
