Default Need Help!

Today, my neice (4) was sitting in my truck and I had to run inside the house. Next thing I hear, is a crash, I run out into my carport, and she ran my truck into my fence and BBQ pit... dang, need a new pit. Anyways, come to find out, you don't even have to engage the brake to put my truck in gear... Thank goodness it went forward into my fence and not backward into the street. Anyways, my question is... aren't you supposed to have to press the brake in order to put the truck in gear? If so, why doesn't mine?

Why would you leave a 4 year old child by herself in a RUNNING vehicle in the first place? Thank god she wasn't hurt. Consider this a lesson learned.

Yeah, should have just left her in the sun with the windows down, hu? Anyways, someone that actually might help. Because as far as I am concerned, the brake should have to be applied, right... She did this while seated in her booster seat as well... she just reached over and boomp... drive.

Thank you flex... I would like to get to the bottom of this. If I had know the dang thing can pop into gear without the brake, then yes, she would have gone in with me.

Glad everything turned out OK. My 06 Ram requires the brake to shift. There should be some sort of brake/shift interlock switch preventing shifting without pressing the brake.

Either the switch or something related sounds like it failed. I think you definitely have a problem.

ya pretty sure all automatics have to have the brake pressed to take it out of park so you diffidently have a problem

i always engage my parking brake just for that reason.

Marx, I guess I will have to teach myself to do that every time until I figure something out.

what year is your truck??? I know that some time back they had a recall on shifter b/c it wouldn't go into park completely and you could just pull it into gear without the brakes being applied.. Mine was fixed b/c I bought it used
