Default Brake caliper question

I have a 04 dodge ram 1500 4,7. I was getting a violent shaking when applying the brakes past 65mph. I decided to change the brakes and rotors.

Upon removing the right brake caliper, I noticed the rubber boot around the piston was damaged, Would this be the reason for my problem?

I dont want to put on the new stuff untill I i am sure this is not the root problem.

This problem started after I had the brakes and rotors changed by a shop, only 1500 miles was put on the pads and rotors after ther change. I wonder if the shop damaged that rubber boot.

Thanks

It's difficult to say. I believe that seal is a dust seal, however if it's binding and not allowing the piston to retract far enough it could cause issues... Yuo definately need to get it replaced. You don't want all that dirt and debris to contaminate the system.

i'd say the shop did it, because if they didn't they would have told you the condition of the caliper to cover there ***.
IMO they pulled at fast one on ya hoping you would't notice

Being that it is your braking system my personal opinion would be to go ahead and replace it. It is just a dust cover, but once enough buildup gets in there then the pistion is not going to retract and like it should. Then you end up with increased wear and tear on your pads and rotors. What shape were the pads and rotors in i.e. thin rotors, thin, pads, or cracks?

All good info so far. Replace and keep moving. Since you need new rotors, you can get slotted and drilled off ebay for about 220

or ebay item number 220676310910
