Default Idle issues 5.7l Hemi

Hi,greetings all you Dodge guy`s.This is my first posting in this forum. And I really like this forum.

So,now my question.I purchased my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500/SLT/4by4/5.7l Hemi last year December and I had never problems until now.

My engine idled always around 600 RPM,but now after a while in traffic the RPM drops to the 500RPM mark and when I shift the trans in Neutral than the RPM goes back to the 600RPM.What can that could be?

Everything else is fine no problems while driving,it is just the idle.

my 05 does the same thing
as long as the engine is running smooth i don't see a problem
the idle is controlled by the number of accessory on and also the temperature
try truing on your blower and it should kick the rpm up 50

500 would feel like close to stalling to me. Have you cleaned your throttle body or EGR? When was the last time you checked the PCV valve or did a tune up?

Mine does the same thing and it drives me crazy! Ive noticed that if I hold the brake and tap the gas it'll go up and stay at 600 again, also it doesnt drop to 500 when the AC is on . I have no clue, so if anybody has a cure for this please respond.

Im sure you guys could use something like a DiabloSports Predator tuner and bump up the idle as well though

As MArx said, Idle is not a set number it is controlled by a number of variables, Engine temps, air intake, Electrical draw, etc... I wouldn't worry about it unless you were actually threatning to stall, sputtering or some other issue of the sort.

Thanks for the response Guy`s!

All my tune up`s are up to date.EGR and TB are clean like a baby bum.PCV I don`t know but I`m going to replace that little Beast tomorrow, just in case.

Temperatur: I thought the same, that Causes the problem but I switched back to the original Cooling Fan to check this option but the problem is still there.
