I see a lot of topics on here with people hoping to increase there gas milage with different mods. I did not see anything about free wheel hub conversions. Has anyone looked into this? Is there such thing? If there is such thing I would think this would definately help with the Hemis Low MPG rating.

I know they make a kit for the older solid axle rams but they run like $1500. I cant imagine there is a free wheel or manual hub conversion for the ifs system on newer rams.

I've actually looked into it and I couldn't find anything on them.. I know they make them for the 2500 but they are solid front axles which makes a big difference

For the price it would cost, I just don't see it affecting gas milage much at all. Maybe i am wrong though, As I have never actually seen it done.

Evidence from my old Ford Explorer days - the older 4WD Explorers with manual or vacuum-locking hubs got 2-3 MPG better highway mileage than the newer ones where you couldn't unlock the hubs. The problem - the additional drag of having the front drive train always engaged to the front wheels. I would say that if there were hubs that could be unlocked, the 4WD Rams would get very similar mileage to the 2WD Rams.

The mileage ratings for the 2004 5.7L Auto show only a 1 mpg difference in highway mileage between the 2WD and 4WD, so maybe the difference isn't that great on these trucks.
