Default Very Very weird....

So I don't know if this is the right place for this...feel free to move it mods...

I installed an escort 9500ci radar detector in my truck a while back, also did HIDs not to long ago...
When I have my high beams on, the laser detector will start going off, its only when I turn my highs off that it shuts off...

I have also noticed that it does it with the horn as well whenever I honk...

Anyone have any ideas? Its stumped me....

Shouldnt have a radar detector!

is your trucks way of telling you!

Sucks they are illegal in canada. I got nailed with one last year. Cop made me drive over it, but it saved me from the 130 in an 80 speed limit zone (km/h)

I always had the same thing at certain traffic lights, but that was because of the traffic sensors I think, so for lights and horn......hmmm. no clue!

Same thing use to happen to me with my radar detector but only when i honked the horn. I just figured it had to do with the cigarette lighter...

I ended up taking apart my radar detector all the way and putting it back together and it hasnt done it since...

By the way yes i do have the same radar

did you tap into certain ignition fed wires behind your dash that could be shorting out on your horn or lights?

Radar detectors are illegal in all provinces but alberta Saskatchewan and either manitoba or bc...it's shamed upon but I have been stopped by the RCMP with my old sti driver. Only thing he said was put it away so that I don't see it, or it will make it harder for you in front of a judge...

As far as wiring goes mine is a little different because I have an aux battery. I have a fuse box that is controlled from the cig lighter. That's what's running the detector. plus a switched circuit coming off the heater controls to run the cut of solenoid that's turns the feed from the main charging battery.
They are both connected via two relays...

RADAR DETECTORS DON'T WORK!!! They are a waste of money. By the time the radar detector goes off you have been in the the range of the police speed gun for a while already! If it goes off and you don't get pulled over by the police officer using the speed gun is not that the radar detector worked and warned you, it was that the police officer had someone else to pull over. I got friends that are police officers and they explained to me. The new police laser speed guns, well let's say you are S.O.L.

little do you know that there are such things as lase shifters which are legal here still...they cannot get a reading on me...period...
Radar detectors work so long as you are traveling on highways with other cars where the cop is constantly trying to read people...I will pick them up a mile down the road...BUT I don't want to get off topic on my post...

I had the same issue with the Escort 8500 x50.
It is a very easy fix. Take the cover off (mine had 3 screws) Use some DRY Q-Tips to wipe the inside of the Laser Horn and Boards. Clean the inside of the Lenses too. Dont use anything wet - just Dry.
Put it back together and it should work with no issues. (I guess until it gets dirty again) Good Luck and let me know how it works for you.

You never answered my question...

I had asked because HID's put out an RF frequency...Radar detectors also put out and read RF frequencies. See where I am going??

I asked if you had Halogen highs because then the HID bulb is bypassed so the rf waves stop until you activate your low beams again.

Or do you have Bi-xenon bulbs in which the HID is for the low and high? That would eliminate the possibility of HID RF interference.
