so its getting to be that time of the year, when you dont really feel like running out to start your truck in the freezing cold so ive been looking into purchasing a remote starter for my ram. i was interested in the viper smart start system, since i have a smart phone and it has the two way communication feature. which will be great for those below freezing nights in the midwest. im planning on doing the install myself, but had a few questions first. i understand the basics and i have done the wiring on some police cars and fleet trucks at my old job. however this is a bit different. i guess my questions is it worth doing my self? anyone who did this what problems or issues did you run into? and finally if you recommend any systems? sorry for the paragraph and thanks in advance.

 

I did my own alarm (Clifford 50.7x) with RKE and RS. They can be tricky. I suggest you spend some time over on www.the12volt.com and go through their sections and forums as those guys can really help. As for the smart phone remote start, you understand that cost X amount per mount and must be on a GSM network right? The 2way remotes that come with those systems work extremely well and long distances.

You will need some extra SPDT 5 pin relays and various resistors for the install. Anything by DEI is good.

 

I bought my dodge in July of this year. I was looking and noticed it has a Digital Tech auto start on it but Idon't have any remotes or manules for this kind of remote start. Does anyone know where i can find a model or a website to get the remote to see if this works? I would like to see if it works prior to me getting a new system before we hit below freezing and the snow starts falling...

Ive never heard of it and it is likely a no-name brand that is made in china and re-labeled and packaged for many companies. The best I can tell you is to google it and see where you can find.

 

i use the auto page alarm remote start 900 works great installed it myself, i can fax you a wire diagram if you need it for the install you need to know what you are doing..
