Default How Difficult is it to Change PS Pump?

Well, I guess its about time to change my power steering pump. I have a dead spot at top dead center when its cold and makes a loud WHHHHERRRRR! Just one of the 100's of things Im having to replace on this truck since I bought it a month ago. Not including the rot on the drivers side of the bed that is beong fixed at the body shop as we speak. Will it ever end?

Whats involved in replacing the power steering on my truck>? Should I get a mopar one or aftermarket????

mopar wanted over or around 300$ if i remember correctly when I replaced mine.. Napa only wants around 70$.. Napa thus far is doing me just fine... Once you get the radiator fan blade off its easy to get the pump and then just swap the pulleys between the pumps.. It took my brother and I less than an hour but he is also a mechanic with all the tools and know how to make it a little easier

It should only be held in with three or so bolts. Just take off the belt, reservoir, and the bolts and it should come off no prob. I don't know exactly how it comes off tho. I removed the pump from a late '07 model, and ordered a new one, but the part was for an '08 so it was completely different for some weird reason. I wonder why dodge made a bunch of bastard trucks for one year only? Anyways, after you get the old pump out, you can either but a new pulley, or you can find a pulley puller set. Under NO circumstances should you use a jaw type puller. It is a composite pulley and will snap with a quickness. You will need the cup style puller that slides over the center shaft of the pulley and has a bolt that pushes through the center of the pulley on the P/S pump shaft. Hope this helps!

Yep, three bolts hold it on. You can download the service manual from the links in my signature to get some more for this or anything else you may have.

one thing you dont need to take the fan blade off and make sure you dont use a hammer to get the pulley on the new pump lol
