Default Demist without air con?

Is there a way to disable the aircon + fan from coming when the blower is set to the screen. I find it bloody annoying and ineffecient on a long winter trip that if I want the windscreen not to be misted up I have no choice but have the aircon and hence the elec fan keep cutting in and out.

If I need the aircon I think I could manage to press the button.

its drying the air, if you don't use it it will take forever to defrost
i'm surprised you can hear it

You shoudn't be able to hear it over the fan noise of the defrost. As far as inefficiency goes the A/C compressor sucks a lot more power than the fan does

I believe there is a low-temp cutout on the compressor that won't allow it to pump in the cold. The condenser fan will still spin though, but that's no big deal.

I can see where your coming from.
After an initial clearing drying up the cabin air with the help of the AC coming on during defrost mode, it would be nice to be able to deactivate the AC from coming on again in this defrost position, so as to save money/fuel.
With the defrost on and the AC cycling all the time as it does, this surely will cause increased fuel bills as having the AC on equates to between 2-3 less mpg I'm led to believe.
I don't know how to achieve what you want though mozzer without just switching the blower to off or changing modes on your HVAC?
Al.

yeah Abarmy i just think it is a waste, when the AC kicks on the headlights dim slightly for a split second, that must be causing unnecessary stress on everything and reduced mpg.
Moving to a different HVAC position doesn`t really work in the cold, just keep misting up and on 8 hour drive from BC into Alberta in the winter it all just gets on my ****.
