Dude if the hose aint worn or causing problems I'd just keep going. Also the lower hose has a slinky spring thing in there to keep it from collapsing I guess. Its not funny to work with.

Also Getting the lower hose was hard the first time. I bought one of these hose picks at harbor freight for 5 bucks. It helps a lot.

 

Did the whole coolant job the other night. I did not change the hoses.

I was amazed at how clean the old coolant was. I drained it into a 5 gallon bucket and i saw no sediment at all. Nothing. It was pristine clear orange fluid. Looking in my radiator it too looks sparkling clean. The factor Dodge coolant is amazing at keeping things clean. I refilled the system with distilled water and 2 gallons of the HOAT coolant. Had to burp it twice but the level is staying perfect now and i get good heat in the cab.

I remember how with older cars, in a year the coolant would be nasty. I am beyond impressed with this new stuff. If after 73,000 miles and 5 years the coolant still looks like new, then i know it's something i will not have to worry about for another 5 years.

 

Yep....do as Dirty suggests and you'll be golden.
I did this about a year ago and used the distilled water as well.
That's a great tip. Never use tap water for the reasons listed above.
That along with HOAT coolant are a must do for these engines.
You can sleep easy, if you do it right the first time.

Distilled water is pretty cheap, like it's been pointed out here. I used tap water (hooked to the hot side of the washing machine) for the flushing, then used some distilled water mixed with anti-freeze to flush out the tap water.

 

I have a cracked Radiator, and bought a csf brand OE replacement radiator. Has anybody heard of this brand? good/bad idea?

 

As long as it works, has a petcock for draining and a direct rad cap you should have no issues.

Do your homework boys, Zerex G-05 made by Valvoline Part Number ZXG051 is the ONLY antifreeze/coolant chemistry APPROVED by DaimlerChrysler for light trucks made from 2001 through 2006 & Newer. ZEREX G-05 is also fully-formulated for heavy-duty diesel protection including Cummins. I have never found it in either Pep Boys or Auto Zone most of them have never even heard of it and insist on you buying Prestone which says it works in all vehicles, last I heard they were being sued for that claim.

 

Not quite. The Mopar Coolant sold at dealerships is also approved (obviously) and far easier to find seeing as any Chrysler dealer stocks it. There are far more Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler dealers around then Valvoline dealers who stock the full line. I checked over 2 dozen auto parts stores in two states near me and NONE stocked the G-05 stuff. But i found a dozen dealers who had the Mopar stuff in stock.
