Default Differences in gas and diesel exhaust systems???

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 5.9L and was thinking of replacing the stock exhaust and was wondering if the angle of the downpipe was the same on the diesel, as it is on the gas 5.9L engines. Where the exhaust goes over the axle. Really want to do 4" exhaust instead of the standard 3". So was wondering if its possible to interchange exhaust systems or would I have to try and make the kit from scratch. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks Zach

Sounds like a lot of work. 4" wont gain you any performance and may even hinder it. Going to a 4" exhaust will simply be a complete hassle for fitment/clearance and machining.

Not sure I agree on the fitment side Dog. Since it already was an option, fitment might not be so bad. but do agree on the performance side, it won't help and may hurt. it may even sound like crap, diesel/gas exhausts are tuned for different flow rates

find a good shop to bend you the pipes.. found a really good exhaust shop near me he bent me duals 3" all the way back fully welded and new hangers for 150 he said if i wanted to wait he would make me a new 3" y pipe from the manifolds and then bump it up and run 4" ALL the way back, and he left my spare tire up and bend around it, very clean job

3" is perfect for your motor, unless you're running a blower or nitrous. 4" is too much pipe - you WILL hurt low-end power and throttle response.
