Default 02 Ram 1500 Rear Springs

Hello, Guys: I am sure glad there is a forum like this one as well as others. It sure saves a poor guy a lot of money. I'm new to
this forum so it want take long for everyone to know that I am
a dummy when it come to auto mechanics. I just bought an 02
Ram 1500, 5.9L, 4 speed auto transmission, SLT, quad cab, and a 6.5 bed, and it has 2 sets of leaf springs on the rear of the
truck(the former owner used it to pull a small RV). Because of
these springs the truckbed is hard to get into for an old man like
me. Can the top set of springs be removed without causing any
problems to the rear or front suspension? Or there any other pro-blem that removing them may cause? Thanks a million for all of
the help!
Happy Thanksgiving To All! Thank God for the priviledge of living
in the good ole USA!

Post a picture of what you have. As the second set of springs are a aftermarket add-on. This way everyone can clearly see what you are talking about. But to basically answer your question, yes you probably can remove them without making a big deal out of it. Good luck..

I think there are 4 leafs per side for a normal leafspring. Unless youhave morethan that(i.e.helpers) thn you cannot remove them. You could put them below the axle which is "lowering" the truck but it might not match the front height?

Hey Guys, I do appreciate your responses and if I can get my pics uploaded I will send them. As for the leaf springs, I have 4 leafs below the axle and 2 leafs
above the axle. Can I remove the two above the axle without creating a problem?
Thanks again for your help!!

Sounds like you have a set of "helper springs", which we can confirm with a pic or two. If this is the case, then yes, these may be removed.

If the bed height is still too high, inexpensive drop shackles may be used in the rear to lower it. Most common is a 2" drop which also will level the back with the front of the truck...
