Running rough and noises
I have an '06 1500 3.7L with ~60k miles. A little while ago it started overheating when stopped or driving slow. It would also run extremely rough and smoke when first starting. Now it runs extremely rough constantly and is making a knocking/banging sound. The water pump went out a while ago and while replacing it I cracked the fan shroud. I was thinking the engine shaking when it was running rough might be causing fan to hit the shroud because that's kinda what it sounds like, but I removed the shroud and it's still doing it. I had the codes read and it is showing random misfire, cylinder 4 misfire. I replaced all plugs and the coil for cylinder 4. I also flushed the radiator and replaced the thermostat. It's still randomly overheating a low speeds and being a pain in my ***. I checked for any sign of coolant in the oil and couldn't find any. Any suggestions as to what could be causing my problems?
If you overheated it at one time, still are having random overheating issues, misfire codes and other related issues, then you have caused mechanical damage and likely have cracked or warped heads or at the very least bad head gaskets. This is obvious from the still random over heating issues you are having. Time to break the engine down and have it properly fixed.
