Need to hear from you 2500 guys
I was backing a pretty heavy trailer up the driveway last night in the snow. When the rear end broke loose, and I stood on it to melt thru the snow and get back to gravel, It sounded like a grinding noise coming from the rear. I have a Dana 60 2500 LSD axle with 4.10 gears. Is this the sound of a pending failure, or does the factory LSD make noise when you work it hard. I drove the truck about 280 miles today with no problems at all.
mine has made noises before.more like a binding sound in reverse and with a trailer.
Took it to the local shop that installed my 4.56 gears, and they said its fine. And it has been fine.It does not do it all the time.Plus I have a lift and big tires.
Not to say yours is fine,I would have it checked out.(better the catch it early if there is a problem)

Are you sure it wasn't just a grinding noise from the tires digging into the gravel and/or throwing them under the truck?
Also, do you swap in the Dana 60? 3rd gen's don't use Dana axles.

Yes, I swapped it after my 9-1/4 wrecked a few sets of pinion bearings. I could hear gravel being thrown, AND the metal grinding noise. I pulled the cover, and it all looked ok, so I am assuming that if it doesn't make any noises going down the road, that the LSD makes some noise when it is worked hard.
