2003 Dodge 1500 4wd help plz...
Has a few inches of snow here last night in new england used my 4wd to get to the fire station where I work it worked fine then this am I tried to use it and it would make a loud clicking/grinding noise when I drove forward as I changed it back to 2wd (its a manual shift) and could only drive it in 4wd...I tried backing it up to disengage 4wd moving the manual shift from 4hi to 4 low and back to 2wd which again makes the same clickin noise.....Any suggestions? I know this may be limited info but I appreciate any help..
not to thread jack, but interestingly enough my truck after the snow has a small shudder now that im back in 2wd, i have an 04 hemi 1500 4 door, and it shudders between 2k and 2500 rpm, according to the common ram issues
2500 shudder/vibration..This can be caused by worn or damaged center carrier support bearings that hold the 2-piece driveshafts in place. While not always the caue, this is the most likely
not sure if the hemi 4 door 1500 is on the 2500 frame or not but i have the tow package
thought we might be in the same boat since its snow and 4wd related possibly

To the OP.....are you sure you have pulled the lever all the way into 2wd?
Sounds like a transfer case problem like the gear isn't fully engaged or something.
Can you "feel" the selection of either 2wd/4wd hi and 4wd low, when you pull on the transfer case selector?
I have an 03 with this same shifter and I can "feel" the gears in if you know what I mean?
You must be in neutral on the column shifter, moving at about 2-5mph and then try to engage the different selections in the transfer case, to secure an engaged drivetrain. Then you pop the column shifter back into drive.
Hope this helps????
Give it a try.
