Default Climate Control

On climate control when I put it on floor blows defrost and floor, put on vent it works. Always seems to be blowing on defrost, makes for some dry eyes. When I want floor that is what I want, control just seems to have a mind of it's own. Any ideas? Checklist (easiest to have to take out the dash) Thanks

Do a search on here for blend doors. It sounds like yours are broken. it is a common issue and there are lots of threads on it

While searching for my own "climate control" issue I saw yours.
Mine blows to the floor and windshield/defrost on the floor setting as well, it has since new. I figured it was the only way to defrost w/out the A/C coming on. That is if the Defrost setting kicks on the A/C. It has in vehicles I've owned in the past.
I have '04 quad 1500 w/5.7 & 2wd

Not sure if all the doors in the climate control box are called "blend" doors or not, but with my dash half apart I've found that the recirculate door is completely broken off its hinge and just sitting there doing nothing!
I've posted in the other long "blend door" post.
Still have the defrost question though. :

Does the A/C automatically turn on when you turn the dial to the defrost setting even if the A/C light is off????

when you select "defrost" it will still blow about 10% of the air towards the floor. When you select "floor" it will do the opposite and divert about 10% to the defrost. The defrost and foot settings work together, so when you have one, you will have a little bit of the other. This is what i understand from reading about every blend door / heater post on the forum. I could be wrong and someone please correct me if i am I am not sure about the AC coming on though, i did not think it came on automatically.

Blend door is typically a dealer only item...probably set you back 60-100 $ for that peice of plastic. The blend doors just prety much direct the flow of the air. If you have the dash apart... knock it out yourself as it is an expensive job (mostly labor hours taking dash apart)

RamTracks...are you sure its not 8% or 12%? JK But yes, the blend doors don't make a water tight seal by any means so its not unusual to have the defrost on and have a little blow on your feet.

Good luck!
