Default Themorstat housing question.

So the other Day I was doing some work on my truck at a buddy's shop on a lift. I realized the previous day that I had a Coolant leak from somewhere. I traced it down to the thermostat housing, little piece of black plastic that holds the thermostat attached to the bottom of the 4.7L motor. I was wondering before I replaced it and the gasket, has anyone seen this issue? If so, is there maybe a little bit nicer one made of aluminum or anything? And any specifications on a specific type of gasket?

Haven't seen it on my Hemi nor on the 4.7 HO in my Grand Cherokee, BUT anywhere there is a gasket has a potential of a leak. I'd just go get me a new gasket and swap it out. Could just be the bolts holding it too, did you check them for torque???

I have not checked torque on it yet, I can order new housing, basket, and thermostat off rockauto.com for about 20 bucks total. I was probably just gonna do that. Guy who owned the truck before me, did not take the best care of it, so whenever something pops up, I usually like to just replace to prevent problems in the future.

No gasket on the housing, it is on the thermostat. When you torque down the housing it creates a seal on/around the thermostat gasket/seal. It is simply a grooved rubber ring on the thermostat itself. The torque specs are really small, something like 112in lbs, hence being made of plastic.
