There are plenty of DIY Writeups on here with other ways besides the expensive spectre tubes to worry about.... Do a search you'll find about half a dozen writeups on it.

Why do you think the high $$$ CAI are made of PVC... and the low $ ones are made of steel/aluminum.... Just saying. To beh onest, you're only going to notice a 2-5 degree difference from the metal to the pvc... but the pvc is gonna be much less expensive and less hastle in the long run. But hey, go with whatever you'd like. It is your truck right? haha

You could go for mandrel bent exhaust tubing if you wanted, I know some guys use that for snorkels

I have a K&N I paid $279 for when my truck was about three months old. Wish I knew about making your own in '04. I've since made about a dozen for people, I think three or four have been/are active members here.

I've seen no noticeable difference between buying one and making your own, given the quality of the filter purchased is about the same. Plus you can customize one that you make and color match it, besides the fact of paying about 1/5 what some of the name brand ones cost...

Yeah 3". Some use adapters and go a little bigger, but unless you change to a bigger throttle body, I really don't see any advantage to it.

Two that I made for members, since it was easy to search rather than look thru all my pics for some:
