Default 6.1 motor swap

can you drop a 6.1 block into an 05 ram 4x4? and will it fit the tranny? i have been thinking about a crate motor for a while now, and want as much streetable power i can, while keeping the 4 wheel drive.

Yes you can drop it in, and yest it will fit the trans. There ends the easy part.

There is a reason the high revving, 6.1L Hemi that makes most of it's power and torque high in the rpm band was never released in a heavy 4x4 QC pickup. You'd come out way ahead spending 1/4th the money of a 6.1 crate engine and just stroking your engine out to 392 CI (6.4L)...

I wouldn't drop it in as is if one fell in my lap. 6.1 makes a helluva foundation for a big stroker (426-440 size).
