Default 2004 4.7L Idle issues.

2004 Dodge Ram 1500. 4.7L. Turns over perfectly fine, but won't idle on it's own.

Drives fine, but takes awhile before it can hold an idle. Needs some gas.

It isn't throwing any codes.

It's not consistent, but either is the weather. It was 29 below the other night and it obviously didn't hold the idle and it hasn't been idling in the low teens either. There was a stretch of about 2 days where it worked fine, but those days warmed up a bit.

I've ran some heet. I don't let my tank drop below half full. My fluids are all fine. When idling it's smooth as could be. One day it wouldn't idle, but I jumped it off another vehicle and it held it's idle no problem. The issue occurred out of nowhere. I have a brand new battery, and it loved that for a couple days, but then the problem popped back up again. (also happened to be warmer stretch) I don't what it's worth, but I also have a cold air intake.

Never had a problem until this issue. My dad suggested a sensor or something, but shouldn't it throw some code?

Default Put the stock air box back on

Hey man, you posted under me at https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...here-from.html you said you had the same problem. It sounds like you have exactly the same problem as me. My truck wouldn't idle after the temp stayed below freezing for a few days (all winter up here). I went to the junkyard and got a stock air box/filter/hose and replaced the CAI I bought the truck with. It's been almost a week and my truck runs great now. Problem solved. I think. It hasn't gotten below zero (10-30 deg) since I swapped it, so... It would have messed up by now though, before. Just thought I'd let you know. This has been pissing me off since last winter.

Hey man. Thanks for the input. I actually pulled my iac valve and cleaned it off with some wd40 and a toothbrush and popped it back it. Truck fired right up and idled perfect. Its been idling fine the past 3 days. Knock on wood. So I'm thinking that did the trick. My iac valve looked pretty grusume.

A lot of time carbon and sticky oil vapor residue will build up on the TB plate and IAC and cause those issues. Glad you got yours running smoothly.
