Default 6.1 Hemi swap

Hi everyone hows it going. I have a 2005 Ram Quad Cab 1500 4x4 with an auto trans. Has anyone swapped a 6.1 in place of a 5.7? How hard would it be, what needs to be changed? Would like this to be as direct a swap as possable i.e. trans bolt up, wire harness, intake, fuel system(pump, injectors.regulator)? Thanks Ken

It is a direct swap and bolt up. The PCM does not need to be changed and with an 05 you do not have MDS so that helps.

Default 6.1 Swap

Hey thanks for the info. I didnt even think about the MDS, are all the 6.1s non MDS or just certain years? The other concerns I have are the intakes can I use the 6.1 or do I need to use the 5.7 intake, I know the throttle bodys are in different locations. The other is would I need to swap over all the pullys, water pump and brakets from the 5.7 to the 6.1? Thanks for you time Ken.

WOW! Intresting.....are there any problems at all one could run into doing the swap..any? The 6.1 will bolt up to our existing tranny? Everything electrically hooks right up huh??

You can use a 6.1 intake on a 5.7 block but will need a special location kit ($425) to move the alt and AC over to make room for the TB. Plus you need intake adapters for the ports to match up.

Expect to pay 500+ for a complete 6.1 intake with injectors and fuel rails. Then another $425 for that kit. Add another 50 for the port adapters.

If the 5.7 is 02-05 then you will need to do the 06-08 or 6.1 ignition conversion which does dual firing coils and eliminates the cross over spark plug wires. Thats another $450 I think.

I know where some 6.1 heads and intakes are for sale right now if you are interested but the heads are about 1000 shipped and the intake and accessories are about 700 shipped.
