Is there any specific type of grease I should use when I get to pressing in the new lower BJ's?

If you are doing ball joints a hubs there is no reason to pull the shaft. Just take a big pry bar and pull out the upper ball joint and pull the knuckle far enough and you can slide the stub shaft out and get to the three hub bolts.

Yeah that's what I'm going to do...actually have a puller I'm gonna use. I was asking if I need any specific type of grease to use with the new lower BJ when I press it in.

Thanks

There is a Great post on here that gives a good tip on pulling the hub. Using the power steering to do it.

I replaced my lower ball joints yesterday. I got a shop with a 100 ton press to get em out for $20. The rental ball joint press didnt do crap. The guy who did it said hes never seen that press struggle and that it slowed up with the dodge ball joints.

I put grease-able MOOG ones in . $65 each but at least they are serviceable

Yeah, that is a great DIY by steve05ram360. But that procedure won't work on my 4x4 1500.

Just FYI for anyone else needing Moog BJ's, I paid the $65 at advance but rockauto has them for $45.

The press I used was this one from advance, worked great once I figured out which pieces to use, had to slide in a small adapter to my set-up to press in. But the pressing out worked great. Dodge made 3 small indent crimps on top of the OEM BJ, needed to tap those back in before pressing out. 100T press, I bet that worked great

I did mine last summer 02 4x4 , I cheated and tok the axle nut off and used the air hammer to break it loose and push it back out of the hub enough to movie it around to get at the bolts that hold the hub assembly. I found on mine the 3 points of the hub bearing assembly I hit them with a large cold chisel and a 3lb sledge after several blows at those 3 points it just about fell out for me on both sides. The ball joint nut was easy to reach at that point and then separted the ball joint by hitting the side of the spindle. I blocked up the upper control arm with a piece of 2x4. Pressed the ball joint out and in and reversed the procedures and put in new hub assembly's. I also found on ebay the hub assembly's are really cheap for mopar replacements. I know everyone has there own methods but the best tip was the axle bearing removal I was cursing them until I figured out those flats in the corner were probably meant to be there for that purpose.

I am going to be doing my ball joints next weekend and was looking at advance auto parts for the Moog BJ's and also looked on rock auto and it is cheaper like FireFighter said but for anyone else who is looking into the Moog BJ's I looked around the internet and found this. If you go to Advanced Auto Parts and put the Moog BJ for $65 in your shopping cart and put in the coupon code BIG25 it will take 40% off your order making the Moog BJ $40 and then you also have the option for local pickup and can go and get it right at the store a couple min later if its in stock and that way dont have to pay extra for shipping or wait for it to come in from Rockauto. Just a little helpfull hint for anyone looking.

True Saugi, BUT they have diffferent promos in different areas. Such as in my area right now the only online promo is APR25, which is up to $25 off an order of $125 or more....and some lower $$ of for lower purchase amounts. Yes, I use the adavance pick-up in store all the time for awhile now because there are always some discounts applied....but with everything I just ordered from rock and 2nd day air, I still saved over $200 vs local stores with discounts applied. Just gotta check for each individual case I guess.

I dont think the online promos are different for what area you live in, they only have one website so everyone sees the same promo. It currently shows on the top of the website when I go there too that APR25 one. I just did a search online for other Promo codes and someone said that one worked so I typed in BIG25 even tho they wernt advertising that at the top of there website and it worked. Rockauto is deff the cheapest without coupons tho and I would have deff bought it from there if I didnt find that one.
