Airbag Light won't shut off!
 

I have an 02' Dodge Ram 1500, 2wd, Single Cab with 147k miles. In pretty good condition considering the miles. My open ended question is anyone out there on DF's found a specific answer as to how to get the Airbag Light on my instrument panel to shut off? I have been seeking answers and have come across a few suggestions, but I'm looking to find another Dodge owner with the same make, model, and problem I have. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Could be the wiring is bad or disconnected at the airbag? Did you buy this truck new? If not did it have the light on when you bought it indicating possibly it could have been deployed and replaced? Lastly, i would suspect the clock spring in the steering column.

Airbag light on could be the clockspring inside your steering wheel. They are pretty cheap to pick up. You have to take the steering wheel off but it just plugs in.

If you're handy at all, I would recommend doing it yourself. I think the dealer charges a fortune for this fix.

Are any safety measures needed, when messing about with these airbags guys??
Over here in the UK, they use some sort of a clamp that fits around the steering wheel to stop an accidental deployment becoming a serious safety issue.

First. disconnect the battery, and then apply the brake pedal for a couple of minutes to drain any electrical charge from the truck. Remember to ALWAYS handle the airbag with the cover facing AWAY from you.
Might want to get a steering wheel puller to help with the removal of the wheel if you need to remove the whole thing. Otherwise, the redneck fix is to use some black electrical tape over the light and call it good, but it's not highly recommended.
