Painting Chrome Door Handle Covers

Painting Chrome Door Handle Covers
The paint on my current handles is jacked up, as are the handles. So, I want to get some Putco Chrome Door Handle covers, and paint them. I've got a few questions though.
1) How do you go about sanding, I'm a rookie at painting and need pretty in -depth descriptions of exact sanding types and stuff like that.
2) What is the best paint to use on car handles, and what is a good clear coat? I want to make sure it holds up in the sun and doesn't fade quickly.
Thanks for the help.

That's plasticized chrome, you shouldn't have to sand it. Clean them with alcohol, hit 'em with a coat of Adhesion Promoter just before (like 2 mins before) you hit them with a couple of coats of the paint.
About three coats of paint and a couple coats of a good automotive clear will be sufficient...

I dunno, I'd agree 100% if it was fairly large surface area, but for stick on handles, I'd get some color match (I mean like actual paint code color match) Duplicolor in a rattle can.
I did my differential cover and sandblasted the black powdercoat off my winch mount. primed it and sprayed it with 3 coats and 2 coats clear and nobody can tell either weren't professionally done.
Now if we are talking body parts or even a hood scoop, different story, I'd either get the paint right from the dealer and use my air sprayer or I'd pay to have it professionally done...
