There should be a sensor that looks for 4wd engagment in the transfer case. If your enagaging in 4wd but the light is flashing my guess would be thats the culprit. If i recall from reading on here they are relatively inexpensive and easy to change.

It started this morning when trying to pull out of the gas station in a foot of snow. 2WD wasnt cutting it so I let off the gas and apparently the ear wheels were still turning when I shifted into 4x4 and it jerker a little when it engaged and the service 4x4 light came on then went right off. but now the 4x4 high light will not stop blinking. both 4lo and 4high engage and stay in gear with no adverse whinning clunking or grinding noises. in other words it works just like it always has just the damn light wont stay on with out flashing.

Mine does the same thing as far as the lights flashing. It stops If I put the truck in neutral and push the brake pedal.
