Your stock driveshaft is perfectly capable of supporting gears.
Any aftermarket driveshaft is a huge expense and a waste unless the stock shaft just isn't holding up.
I would save your coin and use if for your gear install. I assume you have 2wd and are just having the rear axle done? The cost is still a few hundred$.

I wouldn't be so sure, if he's an '04 4x2 then he's got the aluminum driveshaft, like the one Hemiyellow blew up on the highway and a few others on here and other forums.
I wouldn't say he needs to run right out and buy a driveshaft to do the gears, but I wouldn't have a false sense of security that he'd never have his driveshaft implode, either...
