Default hemi oil usage

I have a2005 1500 quad with the 5.7,it has 137k miles and use's about 3 quarts of oil between changes & has a little oil in the air filter & a lot of condensation in the filler cap. It doesn't smoke, but in as little as a 1k miles it use's a qt. of oil after service. Any idea's would be great!

I know the condensation is a normal thing. As for the oil consumption I have heard different things. I know my truck uses close to 2 quarts during the change interval. I just check it and top it off every once in a while.

Condensation is NOT normal. It should burn away/evaporate with use. Do you make a lot of short trips?

Mine doesn't collect condensation in the cap, nor does it lose any oil between changes. Either it's burning or leaking. There may be oil in the coolant, or it's going out the tail pipe. I take it there are no puddles/drips?

If you guys are using oil then you either have seals leaking internally or excessive internal wear in the engine and allowing oil to get where it should not. I.E. the oil rings on the pistons, valve seals in the heads, front/rear seals on the block, ECT

Condensation is fairly normal with short trips during the cooler months. If you are traveling 30 miles each way to work and still getting condensation in the cap, then that's not normal.

Losing a quart per 1000 miles is not normal. Some engines are known for burning or losing oil with age, but the Hemi isn't one of them.

If there is no sign of a leak around any gaskets, then I'd tend to agree with 'Weed. My '04 sits dead on the full line when I change it every 5k miles, although I have yet to hit 50k miles (getting real close though)...

I'd rig up or buy a air/oil seperator. My truck T/B was caked with gunk after just 5kmi. I couldn't believe it. I hear more and more guys buring through crazy amount of oil and everyone complains about the oil in the T/B and upper intake. I would say your PCV is allowing lots of oil through and you are eating it up that way. Up through the PCV and down the T/B into the intake.
I bet if you did a seafoam clean, you'd be smoking crazy amounts out of yout upper intake.
Air/oil seperator will allow you to pour the oil from the catch can back into your crankcase and keep driving. That will show you truly what you are burning and what is getting past the pcv valve.
