Is it just for the first minute or two when the truck is started, and fluids are cold, or is it whenever you stop and idle the truck even after it has warmed up. Mine has a good rattle when it is cold for the first minute or so, but it goes away when it reaches operating temp. It has done that since about 50,000 miles, and it has 162,000 on it now. If it rattles after it is warm, something is going to come apart eventually.

If it does it at normal driving but not at idle it could be just that there is not enough RPM to notice it. You should certainly hunt down the knock or get it checked out

I have the same thing with my truck. Most everybody I talk to with a 4.7L does this, the Hemi motor can tick real bad also. There are a lot of threads talking about this. I just try to let my truck sit for about a minute or so before I start driving it. Just make sure you still have good oil pressure. It may be it just takes a minute for the parts to warm up.

If the knock comes in a cycling pattern, like it is quiet then builds up, knocks kinda loud then fades away again, you might have an issue with your hydraulic tappets sticking, at least that was the case recently with my truck.

You're describing exactly what happened when my 5.2L Durango blew a head gasket.

Default Same problem

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 4.7 also and I have this extremely loud knocking sound that is steady with the rotation of the engine. My check engine light is on and AutoZone says its the number 7 cylinder misfire. The knocking sound will fade with the sound of the engine/exhaust but is still there. My mechanic and i are completely stumped on this. The head gasket is fine, the oil level is perfect, and we have removed the valve covers and inspected the rocker arms and they all appear to working properly. Any ideas would be amazing.....
