A 2500 dually?
I have an 06 2500 Quad cab short bed with a 5.9 Cummins. I have been thinking about doing a dually conversion and really don't know where to start. I have a 37' fifth wheel camper that weighs 12000lbs dry. It's not like I pull it all the time and to be perfectly honest I don't think my truck does a bad job of pulling it the way it is but I have a bug up my *** about this whole dually thing. Has anyone converted a 2500 to a dually or do you know of any kits to do so? If not what exactly would I have to do? Will a 3500 dually axle bolt up on the 2500 frame, does the whole suspension need to be replaced, can you buy the fender flares to widen the box or do you have to replace the box altogether? Just a few of the questions bouncing of the walls of a very large open space I call my brain.
I have a 06 qc with a hemi 2500 HD and have no problem pulling my 32 ft fifth wheel. Myself I don't think I need a deully set up its harder to get around with just driving it with out a 5th wheel hooked up
Hey CCR542
I wanted to upgrade my 1500 with 2500 eight lug hubs and rear axle but the springs are too narrow.
I could be wrong but I think the springs on a 2500 and a 3500 are the same just a different rating. You could get a dually axle and just switch it out. Then add airbags to help out with the springs and weight of the 5th wheel. Then get those cool shorty dually fenders. Now I know that some of the sled pulling crowd just switches out the rear axle to a dually and leaves the fronts alone. Pick up an issue of Diesel Power. That should point you in the right direction. Take lot's of pictures and post your progress
