A few years ago I was going to attempt to change my own spark plugs. I have a 2500 4X4 that sits pretty high. I am only 5'-7" tall. I took one look to see how far back I would have to reach/stretch and said forget it. I found a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep coupon, for $89.95, and let my local dealership change them out.

Last month, I was due for another spark plug change (61,000 miles). I got lucky and found another one of those $89.95 tune-up coupons and dropped the truck off at the dealership. The best $89.95 spent (twice)!

 

How often do you guys change your plugs? Also, what plug do you guys use? I read here Champion says to use a platinum, and someone else said a copper core?

 

Of course Champion says platinum. If you made spark plugs, which would you rather sell, the $2 ones or the $4 ones?

The book says change 'em every 30K. 40K is probably OK. My C had 49K on the plugs when I changed 'em. I used NGK 5306s on the Ram and the C.

 

try not to use platinums..the coilpacks don't likem..don't know why auto parts places recommend them..

 

I had them changed the first time at 27,XXX miles. The second time was at 61,XXX miles. I am trying to stick with the 30,000 mile factory recommendation.With aluminum cylinder heads, I do not want the spark plugs in there for too long possibly seizing into the heads. The O.E.M. Champion Copper spark plugs were used both times.

 

IDk about where you live, but most of the people who work in our auto part stores are CLUELESS. If you are smart you wont believe most of the crap the recommend.

 

While I do agree that most auto parts clerks are CLUELESS...The recommendations come from the computer system...I just looked at Advance Auto website put in vehicle info and I ONLY use Champion plugs, so I filtered the results and saw the 3570 mentioned in this thread so I clicked on it to get full description and it says these plugs are platinum and will fit your vehicle, but double platinum is recommended...I then read more of this thread and found that the copper plus are the way to go...which excites me some, $30 every 30,000 vs $60

 

Well I have a body lift and am taking the brake booster out and putting in a hydroboost so for me, changing plugs is a breeze.

 

...whoever does their homework for the auto houses obviously didn't do it right.. platinums and ram coil packs don't like each other and I know they are teaching this to dealer mechanics now... but again, alot of people still believe whatever the screen spits out...

 

Thats true. I have bought parts for other rides that say will fit that car and they are no here near even being close.
