New Ram owner here
Proud to say I can join the group. The other day I got a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. 4.7L, 4x4, SLT (anyone know what SLT means?), 4 door, 52k miles. Its also a sexy shade of maroon.
I got the truck because I go to college in Omaha, Nebraska (Creighton) and the winters suck, especially since I am a Texas boy who never sees snow, heh. I had a 1999 Dodge Dakota that was a 2wd and yeah...getting stuck on small ice patches SUCKS!
My first few mods will hopefully be:
Fastman Throttle Body
new exhaust
Level the truck, make the front as high as the back (debating between torsion bar turn or leveling kit)
Someday I hope to slap on a 6" lift (not sure which company yet)
Either way, I love this truck. Its like a house on wheels... my first truck was an 89 Dakota and then a 99 Dakota.. so you guys can tell that I am used to a snug feeling truck. But I love the massiveness of the Ram, hah. K, I guess I am done telling you guys what you all must already know
Oh! But one last question...I am waiting to get the owner's manual (prev. owner who sold it to the dealership did not have it) so I can't look up this answer yet: can I shift into 4x4 while in travel? I have tested out the 4x4 but only shifted at either very low speed or while stopped. Like, can I be going 60 and move the shifter into 4x4? Thanks guys!

Hello Cole and welcome to the forums!! Your truck looks awesome, loving the color. Yeah that 6' lift would look good with some beefy tires to go along. Hope you like dodgeforum =)

Nice truck. Very sharp and clean looking. Enjoy it.
As for the shifting... My owner's manual says that you can shift from 2Hi to 4Hi up to 55 mph.
For 4Lo, here's the procedure:
Slow vehicle to 2-3mph.
Shift automatic transmission into neutral.
While coasting, shift transfer case into 4Lo. Do not pause in the neutral position.
That's the manual on an '04, but it should be same for an '02.

sweet, thanks! I know my friends have push button 4x4 on their SUVS (stupid GMC/Chevys) and would change while traveling but I was too scared to try on my baby til I knew for sure
Today I accidently ran my truck over a big concrete thing that is in the front yard (been there since like the 20's...dunno what it is for) and my truck just climbed it and went on going
. Gonna take a lot to harm this sexy truck, haha
