Grinding noise/hard steering wheel/burn smell
Wondering if anyone could help me.
I own a 2006 dodge ram SLT 1500 quad cab. 4.7L 4x2
Grinding noise started when air conditioning was on about two days ago coming from the engine on the drivers side. Today morning the noise was a lot more intense and longer. Check gauges light came on and I saw the temperature gauge passed the 245F mark. There was also some white smoke. Steering wheel got really hard and it takes a lot of strenght to turn. Also when I tried to turn hot air only cold air comes out.

Sounds like maybe multiple things going on here??
Sounds like maybe the AC compressor locked up causing the belt not to spin causing it to burn and not allow the water pump to spin and circulate and the PS pump as well.
If you have not already, you need to pop your hood and check the belt. Take it off if needed and make sure all pulleys spin by hand.

Tks for the tip! You were right. I popped the hood and the belt was completely torn apart. Just bought a new belt and put it back in. Again the rollers ripped the belt apart. Brand new! Not sure what it is now. Any thoughts? It looks like the pulley in the middle is a bit tilted compared to the other ones.
